FICMEC 2020
Premiere in Canary islands and first price of Documentary section
We had to go. Ficmec is not only the oldest environmental festival in Spain but also one of the most prestigious in the European panorama. And there we had the great surprise of winning the first prize for best documentary film 2020. The event not only caught us unawares but also meant the cherry on top of a spectacular week of welcome in Garachico by the warmth of the whole team. Here are some photos of the event.
Teníamos que ir. El Ficmec no sólo es el festival medioambiental más antiguo de España sino uno de los más prestigiosos en el panoramoa Europeo. Y allí tuvimos la gran sorpresa de ganar el primer premio con el brote a mejor película documental 2020. El evento no sólo nos cogió desprevenidos sino que también significó la guinda a una semana de acogida en Garachico espectacular por el calor de todo el equipo. Colgamos aquí unas fotos del evento.
Ecozine Film Festival
Premiere in Zaragoza, Valencia, Pamplona and Huesca,
Finally after a tragic and painful year of global pandemic we can enjoy live the celebration of the Ecozine festival in Pamplona and Zaragoza. It was a privilege to premiere in a festival dedicated to the oldest “green” environmental documentaries in Spain. First in Zaragoza, the city where I grew up, and then in Pamplona. Once again the welcome from both the organisers and the audience was a gift for our souls and a huge thank you for all the previous work. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Por fin tras un año trágico y doloroso de pandemia mundial podemos disfrutar en vivo la celebración del festival Ecozine en Pamplona y Zaragoza. Fue un privilegio estrenar en un festival dedicado a los documentales “verdes” de temática medioambiental más antiguos de España. Primero en Zaragoza, la ciudad donde crecí para seguir en Pamplona. Una vez más la acogida tanto de los organizadores como del público fueron un regalo y un agradecimiento para todo el trabajo previo. Gracias gracias gracias. Apox Film Festival in Losinj island, Croatia
In october also, if, as we hope , world has returned to normality we will travel to Croatia to screen at the official selection of International Film Festival of Apox. A meeting exclusive for documentaries, quite new but with a high level after watching a bit the rest of the program. It will be a privilege to have a premiere in Croatia, a place with a filming tradition and a quite different sensibility to compare with the works that we are use to see in here in Spain. We will have to be patience.
En octubre estrenaremos en la selección oficial del festival Apox de Croacia, en un festival dedicado al documental, que nace este año. Un privilegio estrenar en Croacia, un lugar con una tradición y sensibilidad distinta, sin duda, a la que en España estamos acostumbrados. Habrá que ser pacientes..
Dokville in Leuven, Belgium
What will become of us without documentaries? Places to share, to meet, to learn, to inspire and get inspired, to make broader our senses and points of views? Since the beginning of our journey we wanted to screen in Belgium, A big part of the film was recorded there. But also, the film The Price of Progress tells us about the wars and disputes between the public and private spheres in the arena of the European Institutions. Therefore, Belgium, where the hearth of Europe lives was the first and foremost place to go. The official selection of the section ConScience was a real and unexpected gift. In particular, because the prestige and the high number of films that each year compete to enter into the official selection.
Unfortunately the infamous Covid crisis came and the Festival should be delayed till the end of October. Obviously, we sincerely hope that, beyond the festival, we as society had learnt that only by a strong and international cooperation we could overcome crisis like this one as well as the incoming ones related to the global warming.
¿Qué sería del documental sin los festivales? Lugares de encuentro, de compartir, de ensanchar las miras y de gran disfrute. Desde el principio buscamos entrenar en Bélgica, donde grabamos gran parte de la película. The Price of Progress sobre todo habla de La Comunidad Económica Européa y las tensiones de poder entre la esfera pública y privada. Y Bruselas es el corazón donde más obvio se da este enfrentamiento. La selección oficial en la sección de ConScience nos cayó como un regalo inesperado si pensamos en el prestigio internacional del festival y en las miles de fantásticas películas que competían por entrar en la selección.
Por desgracia sobrevino la crisis mundial de Covid y el festival, inevitablemente se retrasó hasta el 23 de septiembre. Esperemos que para entonces, más allá del festival y lo que significa, ojalá que como sociedad hayamos aprendido que las crisis como la del Coronavirus, las derivadas de la Salud o el calentamiento climático sólo las venceremos en una acción conjunta más allá de intereses nacionales o financieros.
